Primary Function:
The Quality Control Chemist is a support role for the functioning of the Quality Control Laboratory and the Quality needs of the Compounding department. Support shall be provided by assisting the QC department in general to meet the departmental expectations for physical testing of products and materials which typically includes organoleptic evaluations, pH, Viscosity & specific gravity. Supporting compounding department with tank cleaning verification testing and inspections as well as in-process manual batch adjustments and occasional laboratory trial sample preparations. Basic decision-making skills are required for this position. Examples for decision making skills include prioritize work, managing your time. Working toward continuous improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
· Evaluate in- process, Finished goods, R&D and Stability samples for physicals analysis.
· Provide in-process batch adjustments by performing analysis and lab trails as instructed per the master batch record.
· Record all evaluations in the laboratory notebook and report test results in the appropriate forms and analysis sheets according to cGMP, SOP, and current industry practices.
· Clean and maintain a clean work area which includes cleaning glassware, counters, and equipment.
· Keeping the analytical laboratory supplies stocked and in order.
· Perform daily calibrations / verification of balances, viscometers, pH meters, conductivity meters and other such equipment or instruments used to perform the analysis.
· Monitoring supply inventory and notifying the management when it is time to order more supplies.
· Server as back-up to perform occasional R&D work by preparing laboratory batches and or trials as instructed by the R&D manager.
· Support Microbiology with basic solution/media preparation or basic testing on a back-up basis.
· Train new associates in QC laboratory on how to perform in-process batch adjustments and other functions as instructed by management.
· Other duties as assigned by management.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
· Preferred degree in Chemistry or Related Scientific field
· Experience with HPLC analysis Waters brand preferred, Empower 3 Software
· Experience and skill with analytical weighing, pipetting, general analytical lab skills including related calculations.
· Experience with GMP / FDA regulated industry preferred
· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel
· Read, Write, Comprehend SOP, Compendia, Technical documents in English
