Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Union Carpenter – Interior Sign Installer to support signage installation projects across New York’s Capital Region and Hudson Valley . This position focuses on interior signage installations in public institutions such as state offices, SUNY campuses, hospitals, K–12 schools, and regional airports , with full compliance to New York State DOL Article 8 prevailing wage requirements.

You will install vinyl graphics, ADA signage, and dimensional lettering in live, occupied environments that demand professionalism, safety, and a high attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install ADA-compliant interior signage, vinyl wall and window graphics, directional signage, room IDs, and dimensional letters
• Apply vinyl graphics with precision on a variety of surfaces including drywall, glass, and metal
• Review and interpret shop drawings and site layouts to ensure accurate sign placement
• Use ladders, mechanical lifts, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively
• Prepare surfaces (measure, level, clean, anchor) and install signs in compliance with building codes
• Work on active job sites such as schools, healthcare facilities, and state buildings with sensitivity to occupants
• Maintain compliance with OSHA standards , NYS DOL regulations , and any site-specific safety requirements
• Document work progress and communicate clearly with foremen, general contractors, and facility managers

Required Qualifications:

• Active membership in good standing with a recognized Carpenters’ Union (e.g., Local 291, Local 279)
• 3+ years of interior signage installation experience, including vinyl application and ADA compliance
• Experience working on NYS public work projects under Article 8 and familiarity with prevailing wage documentation
• OSHA 30-Hour Certification (Construction Industry)
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and work safely at heights using ladders or lifts
• Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites throughout the Capital Region and Hudson Valley
• Ability to pass background checks for work in schools, healthcare facilities, and secure government buildings

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with DASNY, SUNY, or local government contracts in New York State
• Familiarity with ADA signage placement standards and NYS Building Code
• Working knowledge of signage mounting hardware and techniques
• Fall protection, scaffold user, or confined space training (as applicable)
• Experience in occupied site conditions and coordination with other trades

Additional Qualifications

• Carpentry and Finish Carpentry skills
• Proficiency in working with Power Tools
• Experience in Framing and using Hand Tools
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures
• Prior experience in sign installation is a plus
• High school diploma or equivalent
