The Position

Our client is seeking to fill a Consumer Loan Underwriter role located in the Bowling Green, KY market. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering outstanding member experiences by matching customer needs with the Bank’s lending solutions including auto, personal, home equity loans, as well as ancillary loan products. Responsible for interviewing and gathering the needed items for loan approval.

The opportunity has a generous salary of up to $50K and a full benefits package. (This is not a remote position.)

Consumer Loan Underwriter responsibilities include:

  • Underwriting and rendering a decision on all consumer loan applications initiated through all customer and sale channels of loan origination in accordance with policy, guidelines and all state and federal regulations.
  • Gathering information in an accurate, clear, and concise manner so that they can make an informed decision.
  • Demonstrating exceptional service in all interactions with customers, prospective customers and Bank staff and personnel.
  • Examining loan documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicating loan decision and any required conditions, within the defined approval authority parameters, to applicable loan support staff, sales, management, and/or the customer.
  • Meeting production, quality and service standards along with providing feedback to ensure quality.
  • Working in collaboration and partnership with other team members.
  • Maintaining current understanding of various documentation types, loan programs, as well as all overall general underwriting guidelines.
  • Additional job-related projects as assigned by management.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance (or related field), or equivalent work experience.
  • Two years of consumer loan underwriting experience.
  • Experience in home equity and automotive underwriting.
  • Ability to interpret complex policies, rules, and regulations affecting consumer lending programs.
  • Ability to recognize potential red flags and inconsistencies within application and loan files.
  • Identify other problem areas and initiate proper mitigation action.
  • Ability to manage large workloads, while shifting priorities as needed to reach time sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to collect data, analyze information, and interpret financial statements and reports for Management.
  • Extensive knowledge of loan requirements for consumer installment, and consumer open-end credit loans.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, excellent math skills, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to perform work with a high level of concentration.
