Our client is a leading specialty construction organization focused on environmental remediation. They provide soil & groundwater remediation, decommissioning & demolition, water & wastewater treatment services, and sensitive habitat & waterway restoration.
They are seeking to hire an experienced HR Generalist to join their team at their main corporate offices in Costa Mesa, CA.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our HR department generally, and in various key functions such as:
• Recruiting support
• Employee onboarding
• Benefits enrollment and renewal updates
• Fringe benefits administration
• 401K Enrollments and maintenance
• Leave of absence / FMLA administration
• Training facilitation
• Employee development support
The HR Generalist will act as a liaison between management and employees, ensuring that company policies and procedures are followed, and all HR-related issues are resolved effectively and efficiently. By serving as a front-line advisor on HR-related topics including policies and best practices for our Costa Mesa, Anaheim, and Concord offices supporting 140+ employees company-wide.
This a full-time, on-site, in person role based in our Costa Mesa, CA corporate office.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Manage the recruitment process, including posting jobs, pre-screening applicants, scheduling interviews, and extending job offers.
• Facilitate new hire onboarding, new hire paperwork reviewing policies with employees, and ensure a positive onboarding experience.
• Support efforts to maintain positive employee labor relations.
• Maintain continuous engagement with all employees, especially offsite field workers.
• Research and resolve employee concerns regarding their compensation/pay rate, time off with pay accruals, or personal info/record updates.
• Audit weekly payroll reports and follow up to make necessary corrections prior to processing wages.
• Assist the HR Supervisor in the coordination of employee separation paperwork (including, where applicable, timely coordination of the preparation of Final Pay), processing the change in the system, and sending out post-separation paperwork.
• Assist the HR Supervisor with all employee benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, FSA, 401(k) retirement plan, and Aflac benefit offerings.
• Collaborate with HR Supervisor to maintain accurate job descriptions.
• Clearly answer employee questions regarding benefit plans in a timely manner.
• Provide support for all aspects of leave, accommodation, and modified duty programs including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, PFL.
• Stay current and informed about recruiting techniques and compensation trends to be competitive.
• Provide clarity and direction to field staff on Company policies and procedures.
• Support the Health & Safety Team in their efforts to maintain a safe work environment for all.
• Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters.
• Facilitate and communicate policies and programs to ensure labor law / regulatory compliance.
• Maintain accurate employee records in compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Support the implementation of technology-based HR automation solutions to improve efficiency.
• Support all departments in providing relevant training companywide.
• Special projects and other related duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
• Proficiency with Office 365, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
• Able to meet deadlines to get the job done efficiently.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
• Excellent customer service relations skills, and a strong understanding of the need to be service oriented.
• Experience in a busy construction office environment would be an advantage.
• Ability to persevere to take challenging tasks to completion.
Business Travel
• Occasional travel required as needed from our Costa Mesa base to both local and remote company locations to attend meetings, training, and other functions as follows:
o Anaheim, CA warehouse when needed.
o Concord, CA branch office, with possible overnight stay.
o Project sites.
o Offsite non company-locations.
Education/Training
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum three to five years of direct work experience in an HR position.
• Valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation.
