BHE GT&S JOB DESCRIPTION BHE GT&S has an exciting summer internship opportunity for a rising senior majoring Information Technology student within our Gas Control Department at our Greystone location in Columbia, SC.
RESPONSIBILITIES We are seeking a highly motivated Information Technology (IT) student who is willing to work in the energy industry. Some of your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Position will work within a process control and data management software program, workstations, servers and systems. The assignment will be to lay out the elements of an HMI (human-machine interfaces) screen in a logical format. Some of the key design components include screen hierarchy, navigation (button bars, navigation buttons, menus, etc.), screen styles (objects, colors, and text), etc.
• Help create queries, pie charts, graphs, from a work management system software to better display different types of work categories.
• Within the work management software system, the student will be utilizing the reporting function to create reports by using existing fields to pull in data applicable to specific areas. The majority of these reports will be compliance related, and reporting will be needed to be able to pull data from other legacy software.
• Also, student will work to transfer & build preventive maintenance programs from external applications and integrate into the new software systems.
Individuals must have a desire to learn and engage interactively as part of a safety conscious workplace. An independent source of transportation for this summer 2026 internship is needed as there is limited public transportation options in the area.
Your summer internship will be a minimum of 8 weeks on site (June 1 - July 24). Please note: the internship could be extended for up to 11 weeks considering your summer schedule and the needs of the business.
Successful candidates who are 50 miles or more from the assigned work location may be eligible for a one-time housing stipend.
QUALIFICATIONS Qualified candidates will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Must be a rising senior as of summer of 2026.
- Currently be enrolled in a 4-year Bachelor's degree program with a concentration in information technology.
- Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher (3.0 preference).
- Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to create and work with Word/Excel spreadsheet and reports.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment or independently.
- Good planning and organizing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Analytical and deductive reasoning skills, oral/written communication skills, technical writing skills, electrical/mechanical skill/mathematical skills.
- Good communications and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated and have a strong work ethic.
- Prefer students with active participation in a university engineering organization, especially, in a leadership role.
- Must currently hold a valid driver's license.
- Contribute to a team-centric work environment based on mutual respect and integrity.

Education Currently enrolled in a 4-year Bachelor's degree program with a concentration in information technology.
Candidate must be at least a rising senior by summer 2026.
