Elevage Medical Technologies Investment Professional Position

BACKGROUND

In May 2023, Patient Square Capital (“Patient Square”), a leading health care investment firm, announced the formation of Elevage Medical Technologies (“Elevage”), a new platform to support the growth of promising medical device and technology companies by providing investment capital and deep strategic expertise. Elevage delivers financial and strategic growth support to a broad set of medical technology companies that are at the forefront of transforming health care through cutting-edge devices, diagnostics and laboratory tools that enhance health outcomes and improve quality of life for patients.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Patient Square Capital is a dedicated health care investment firm with approximately $12 billion in assets under management. Elevage Medical Technologies is led by Dr. Evan Melrose as Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Melrose brings with him more than 25 years of experience in health care across clinical, investment, and operational roles. Dr. Melrose most recently served as the Founding Managing Director of Spindletop Capital, which provided pivotal growth capital for healthcare companies. Before this, he was the Founding Managing Director of PTV Sciences, an Austin-based venture capital firm, and served as a Director with Burrill & Company, a San Francisco-based life sciences private equity/venture capital firm. Dr. Melrose serves or has served on multiple company boards including IntersectENT (Nasdaq: XENT), Bioventus (Nasdaq: BVS), and BioForm Medical (Nasdaq: BFRM, acquired: MERZ).

Elevage’s senior leadership also includes Michael Wasserman, Ph.D. as a Partner and COO of Elevage. Michael brings over 30 years of experience in healthcare across scientific, entrepreneurial, executive, and investment roles. Prior to Elevage, Dr. Wasserman served as Managing Partner of Maverix Private Equity and spent 17 years at H.I.G. Capital, where he was a Managing Director of the BioHealth platform. He has founded and sold several private healthcare businesses and served on numerous company boards including HyperBranch Medical Technologies (acquired by Stryker) and NeuWave Medical (acquired by Johnson & Johnson). Dr. Wasserman holds a B.Sc. from McGill University and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Neuroscience from the University of Toronto. He serves on several not-for-profit boards, including the Board of Trustees for the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.

Suchira Sharma is also a member of Elevage’s founding team, currently serving as Principal. Suchira has been investing in healthcare her whole career. Prior to Elevage, Suchira was a member of the investment team at Revelation Partners, a multi-billion-dollar healthcare equity firm. Suchira began her investing career at Hercules Capital where she underwrote structured debt and equity securities for a range of healthcare businesses, both public and private.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Given the growth and expansion of Elevage and its portfolio companies, Elevage is recruiting an Investment Professional to support the firm’s overall investment efforts and portfolio companies. The Investment Professional will be expected to contribute to all aspects of Elevage’s business, including deal sourcing, investment due diligence, deal execution and portfolio company management. The candidate will engage with companies at all stages and will be exposed to a diversity of technical and business challenges and opportunities. The Investment Professional will be based in Austin, TX.

THE INDIVIDUAL

At a professional level, Elevage is seeking an individual with a strong interest in the medical technology and investment space, experience in an entrepreneurial, hands-on, growth-oriented setting, and a passion for forward-thinking, groundbreaking technology. While the specific experience set may be variable, consulting, banking, and investment experience will be viewed favorably.

Elevage seeks to recruit an individual who is intelligent, self-motivated, capable of exerting sound judgment, and a strong decision maker. Elevage prioritizes recruiting an individual who is an analytical and independent thinker, while also being collaborative and consensus driven. The Investment Professional must be a strong communicator and presenter.

This individual will work as a hands-on member of a small team within an entrepreneurial, fast-moving environment where everyone “wears multiple hats.” It is paramount that this person has unquestionable integrity and the highest ethical standards. Furthermore, the individual must be capable of complete and persuasive communications both orally and in written form.

Elevage is seeking an individual with 2-6 years of professional experience, with investment experience preferred, and is open to individuals with a range of educational backgrounds, including those with an M.B.A., Ph.D., and/or M.D.
