Job Description

Must-Haves:

• 10 years of safety experience
• 5 years of management experience in safety
• Rail experience
• Must be a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)

Plusses:

- Bachelor's degree

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

Safety Program Leadership

• Lead, coach, and monitor the implementation of the Company Safety and Health Program.
• Champion behavioral-based safety initiatives like Safety 24/7.
• Ensure regulatory compliance through the Safety and Health Management System.

Operational & Team Leadership

• Actively engage in daily operations while guiding safety staff.
• Supervise, mentor, and empower safety personnel to drive performance and continuous improvement.
• Foster a collaborative environment that promotes learning and accountability.

Audits, Inspections & Incident Management

• Oversee safety audits, inspections, and conversations; ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
• Lead incident investigations and develop strategies to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting of incidents in the company’s data system.

Strategic Safety Initiatives

• Partner with operations to develop and execute injury and incident mitigation strategies.
• Recommend and implement process improvements based on safety performance data.
• Analyze safety metrics to identify trends and support operational decision-making.

Training, Communication & Policy Development

• Coordinate safety meetings and training programs tailored to operational needs.
• Guide staff in using data to inform training and communication strategies.
• Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement safety policies and procedures.

External Coordination & Compliance

• Lead project safety coordination with subcontractors, vendors, and third-party personnel.
• Serve as a point of contact for regulatory agencies and clients regarding safety matters.
• Support insurance investigations to minimize risk and loss.

Job Summary:

This Safety Manager will be supporting a project for the Alexandria Railway Express. We are seeking a Safety Manager with safety management experience along with at least one year of exposure to a railroad environment.
