Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, adapt, and deliver engaging lessons based on each student’s IEP goals and state standards.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the unique needs of students with a range of disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders).
  • Use evidence-based instructional strategies, assistive technology, and accommodations/modifications to promote student access and success.

IEP Development & Implementation

  • Conduct assessments and gather data to develop effective, measurable IEP goals.
  • Participate in and lead IEP meetings, collaborating with parents/guardians, general education teachers, therapists, and administrators.
  • Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals regularly and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and provide proactive behavioral support in alignment with Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).
  • Address social skills, life skills, and self-regulation strategies as needed.
  • Work closely with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and co-teaching models.
  • Maintain accurate records, including IEP documentation, progress reports, behavior data, and assessments.
  • Stay current with special education laws, regulations (e.g., IDEA, Section 504), and best practices.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, team meetings, and school initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • Valid [State] teaching certification in Special Education (e.g., K–12 or appropriate grade level range)
  • Knowledge of IDEA, FAPE, LRE, IEPs, and other key special education concepts and practices

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or a related area
  • Experience working with students with a variety of disabilities
  • Familiarity with IEP software (e.g., SEIS, IEP Direct, EasyIEP)
